Election Day Vote-Buying Arrests Across Bulgaria


138 signals of vote-buying have been investigated by the Bulgarian Interior Ministry and police up until this moment.

The Interior Ministry and the National Security Agency (DANS) reported Sunday that on Saturday alone 50 vote-buying reports were investigated with 2 leading to criminal prosecutions. Overall 49 cases are being taken to court they added.

A 41-year-old woman was arrested in Lom on charges of vote-buying after being found to be carrying a list of voters and their identity card numbers. Other arrests have been made in Ruse, Byala and Pleven.

DANS reported that it had received a total of 69 reports of vote-buying since the polls were opened on Sunday.
