Ahmadinejad demands apology from Obama

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has demanded an apology from Barack Obama over the US leader’s criticism of Iran’s post-election crackdown.

The Iranian President is quoted as accusing Obama of behaving like his predecessor George W. Bush towards Iran.

On the website of his defeated chief rival in the June 12 ballot, there are further allegations that the vote was rigged. Mir Hossein Mousavi’s site also says 70 professors were detained after meeting him and his campaign manager has been arrested.

While amateur footage of clashes continues to circulate, street demonstrations in Iran are fading.
The battle appears to have moved into a behind-the-scenes power struggle within the clerical establishment.

In a tribute to the young Iranian woman whose death has made her an icon for protesters, the opposition plans to release thousands of balloons today. The message imprinted on them: “Nada, you will always remain in our hearts.”
